The Pell Grant is a fabulous kind of financial aid that can provide you up to 5,550 dollars per academic year towards your education-related expenses. While that is a significant amount of money, it may not be enough if you’re attending an expensive four-year university, or even some state schools. When this is the case you may want to consider your other options in terms of financial aid for that particular school year. Types of Financial Aid

So where do you start if you’re a college student who has no experience with acquiring financial aid? You first need to understand that you can apply for each type of award independently, or via what is called the FAFSA application. FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid, and by filling one out on-time, and in a correct fashion, you’ll be making yourself eligible for not only the federal Pell Grant, but for the large amount of other federal aid that may be able to qualify for.

The FAFSA is great because you can make yourself eligible for a multitude of different forms of aid by simply filling out one application. There is a ton of federal aid in existence, and if you display a significant need for aid to attend college filling out a FAFSA can be a fast ticket to a large financial aid award package for the upcoming school year. The limitation of the FAFSA is that it will only put you into contention for federal student aid, and perhaps certain kinds of aid that may be available from your college of choice.
You will have to apply independently for any other scholarships, grants, student loans, and other miscellaneous programs that may be available to you, as there are a countless number of other financial instruments that you may be eligible for depending on your own credentials. Ultimately it is best to fill out the FAFSA in accordance with applying for other kinds of aid if you want to maximize your ability to get the most money you can for the upcoming school year, and hopefully by doing so you’ll be able to get the money you need to attend college.
